It's going to be at least a generation and a half before Americans are willing to trust the CDC again and that's only if they revamp their policy to exclude politics in their recommendations. I knew the CDC was a lost cause when we discovered them colluding with the teacher's unions (an inherently political institution) on recommendations for in-person schooling. We need a Convention of States so we may axe the size of the Federal government back to a manageable level. At its current size, the enormous and unwieldy Federal government no longer exists to serve the People. Instead, it's grown to exist simply to protect itself at the People's cost.
The problem with that is without an agency coordinating response to actual medical threats to the population, you have multiple local governments stepping on one another and duplicating efforts. This kind of disorganization costs lives. You get African disease response at the turn of the century or the 1918 Spanish Flu response where dozens of health departments in multiple states were flailing about and creating confusion with sometimes contradictory orders. I don't like the CDC either, but like government, it's a necessary evil. All you can do is elect those who believe in small government and objective and apolitical response and demand every part of it work as efficiently as possible.
Agree some level of government is a necessary evil as prescribed by our founding ancestors. No government functionaries should be allowed to exist however who are in a position to outfox the ability of we the people to command our oversight. Without highly skeptical oversight by those with eagle eyes and the right intent government is a set up for tyranny.
