I read an article yesterday about a man who murdered three people (one of whom was his own mother) and then kidnapped his ex-girlfriend. He beat her, strangled her repeatedly with an extension cord for *hours* to the edge of death, sexually assaulted her with a pipe and burned her with a heated metal spatula. She escaped and he was arrested. For 3 murders, kidnapping, torture, rape and assault, the judge set a $100K bail for a violent offender with an extremely long rap sheet (I believe this happened in Detroit but I couldn't find the article again today). He posted $10K bond and was freed. They just found his ex-girlfriend's naked and beaten body in an empty lot discarded like garbage. He shared a child with this woman. If we can't muster the stones to protect society from a monster who preys on his own mother and a woman for whom he once, I assume, cared, we might as well hold gladiator matches and give leadership to whomever is strong enough to take it and keep it. At this point, isn't that what we're doing anyway?

This is one of the tactics -- put more violent people out there, increase the chaos, discourage law enforcement, get more people to take justice into their own hands leading to more countermeasures: This is the Revolution.

The Dem-RINO Globalist Uniparty are using WEF/Soros appointed prosecutors who only seem interested in prosecuting conservatives/patriots/Christians?!

They protect criminals because they are criminals, they want lawlessness to cause chaos & distract us from all their crimes.

Also they opened our to allow an invasion & try to force Globalization in America.

I’ve never heard of so many explosions & arsons in my entire life as we’ve seen in the last couple years.

Not just the major explosions & arsons that are in the news but MANY smaller arsons happening in my tiny town in the sticks!

Wonder how many other smaller arsons are happening countrywide???

Many farms, barns & other older historical buildings have been burnt down & they have no suspects in any of them.

Two Tier Justice is now very flagrant in America & worldwide.

The "political justice" methods we are witnessing are right out of Stalin's USSR.

We need to free the Jan 6 prisoners from the Gulags, give them fair trials, and have them testify to the House Judiciary Committee.

I live in this town and am a member of the legal community. I would be very interested in knowing what judge made these orders. None of the articles mention the judge. The Colombian usually enjoys skewering the legal profession, judges particularly, so the omission is glaring. Shame on the legal system for allowing violent criminals to stay on the streets pending their legal matters. Vancouver, WA is turning into Portland and it is sickening to see day by day. Everyday, NextDoor is full of porch thefts, car thefts, assaults, armed robberies, and more property destruction and homeless camping in public places. I am sick of it as a community member and small business owner. There seems to be no political courage to stand up to fight these issues on a local, state, or national level.

A big problem is it is not close enough to home for these fools. Not as horrific, but an example. While living in Pittsburgh, PA, a certain female judge was soft on car thieves. Then HER car got stolen and trashed. The SERIAL thief was in her court THE DAY BEFORE AND LEFT WITH A SLAP ON THE WRIST!

She of course threw the book at him!

I'll leave you with two thoughts: 1. If you've "spent over 40 years studying and dealing with structural racism and sexism," I'd submit you're in your own way. When you start with a goal of finding something you already believe is there, you're absolutely going to find it. It's called confirmation bias. 2. If you can protest, riot, loot, write opposition articles, run for office on a platform of structural racism and never be charged, imprisoned or killed for doing so and, in fact, be lauded for it, you're *not* oppressed. I have no end game here. I'm truly trying to give you evidence. However, I quoted FBI statistics and you suggested those statistics are somehow "mine" and "dubious," so you clearly have an ingrained bias and there's nothing I can do with mere facts to change that. My only suggestion is that should travel to an Asian country like China or Japan if you'd like to observe actual "structural" racism. The CCP literally blamed COVID-19 on black tourists and residents for a while. Many restaurants in China won't allow black people to enter or eat there. In Japan, it's often more subtle but no less insidious. In America, we'd never tolerate that kind of behavior. However, people like you who somehow believe giving minorities victim classification somehow helps them move forward befuddles me. Whatever you're working toward with this, I hope you find a version of it that gives you peace. Sadly, I think the only end to such division, victimization and rancor is further violent clashing between the races and that, I can assure, will help no one of any race.

The judicial system is definitely failing, it’s overran, the way our system is set up makes it even harder to get the criminals from jail to sentence in a rational period of time, there is not enough jail space, and too many criminals… that is not to say that there should be lenience on criminals, that is to say, our government needs to rethink how they do things, this is where Republicans can shine right now, instead of going along with woke ideas…

How about stopping the distortion of criminal justice reform! How about looking at the 1000's incarcerated for minor infractions such as an ounce of marijuana which is not a violent crime. How about focusing on the violence of police who use the bogus Qualified Immunity defense to get away with the violence murders of people, particularly People of Color, often for driving infractions like a broken tail light. Your fear mongering is divisive, unfactual, and downright racist.

Expand full comment

You should really slow down on your consumption of the Kool-Aid. I worked in the justice system for 23 years on the defense side. Most people incarcerated for non-violent crimes like possession an "ounce of marijuana" or less are usually plead down from far larger and often violent crimes. In all my years in court, I never ran across a defendant who was prosecuted and imprisoned for simple possession of an ounce or less of marijuana unless there were special circumstances, i.e. dealing in a school zone or the defendant was a multiple repeat offender. Instead of pushing fairy tales about widespread police bias against black and Hispanic offenders (the unfortunate truth is black individuals are 12 - 13% of the population and commit 80+% of the crime), go sit in on felony arraignment court in your city one day. The things you see and hear will disabuse you of the notion there are roving mobs of racist police officers arresting law abiding people for broken taillights. The truth is this: when Officers stop me for a broken taillight, I remain calm and follow officer commands while making the officer aware of my Constitutional rights. It's not the officer's job to argue with me. That's what court is for. If I feel badly treated, I make a complaint. If I feel my rights were violated, I fight the ticket. Many (not all) minorities who become entangled in police violence, when stopped in the same situation, argue, become belligerent, flee or become violent and then are shocked when they get shot. It's important to remember police officers are human beings who want to go home to their families after the traffic stop too. Behave like a civilized individual and more often than not, you will be treated like one, especially in this day and age of body cameras. If not, reach out to people like me who will sue the department on a contingency basis. Behave like you learned to in Kindergarten and most of this violent nonsense between police and society will end. Don't behave yourself and watch it escalate. As in most things, both sides of this issue are behaving badly in the outlier cases. In the majority of cases, if the person stopped had used a smidgen of common sense, he/she wouldn't have been injured or killed. That's just the black and white facts of the matter (no pun intended).

Well maybe if you got your head out of the system and spent time in communities of working people and people of color you would see an entirely different picture. Actually I have spent time, not only in courts, but also working in prisons. If you actually paid attention you would know that people are often abused by police even when they are trying to 'behave.' Police are known for huge % of them coming from a racially biased place and even when they are people of color, themselves, they are trying to hard to 'fit in' they often are more abusive. As one of my favorite civil rights lawyers notes, no matter what their race police are All Blue! And you might look at history and understand the structural nature of policing and prisons stems directly from the Slave patrols that morphed into the policing we have today. The princples behind policing is protecting white people and their property. As a consequence we have police abuse even of People of Color who earn high incomes, have tremendous professional acclaim and drive very nice cars. How many cases of cops arresting such people simply going into their own homes because of their color as the assumption is they could not belong in upper middle class mainly white communities. I have dealt with many people of color who have been sucked into the white supremacist thinking as they work in that system. Years ago it was understood as "internalizing one's own oppression!" People of color have a big reason to not trust police as they are a danger to their health. And police are not held accountable.

I note two things in your post: In the opening 40% there are no facts; there is an insult and an allegation or two. In the remainder you dig into distant history for an imagined (IMO) link. Ma'am, I stated clearly at the beginning of my post I worked for the *defense*. I defended people who have actually been abused by the system of which you're so contemptuous and have also traveled widely and I assure you, America is a beacon of light in justice to every single country I've been to regardless of whether they were 1st or 3rd world. The people I defended were of every race, color, creed, religion and ethnicity and you don't have to convince me there are bad actors out there. However, I know for a fact the incidents you refer to are so rare as to be negligible. Of course, they're not negligible to the people they happen to and I'd love to say they never happen, but there will always be some asshole out there who shouldn't ever be given power over other human beings. I didn't get into criminal defense because I felt the state was blameless by any means, but what I've told you is fact. You can go to any government law enforcement website and see there are more white people shot by police than black people *every* year, despite the much higher representation of black people in almost every crime category. I don't have any means of altering FBI or LEA statistics and the majority of FBI and LEA statisticians are politically left-wing, so I'm unsure what they'd gain by supporting my argument with their numbers. Once again, I'm not suggesting minorities aren't sometimes treated badly by police, even for racist reasons, which is absolutely despicable. I'm telling you the people filling your head with this nonsense that it's common are biased and don't have your best interests at heart. I made a career of defending people accused of crimes and those who had their Constitutional Rights violated. I did a good job of it. I'm not bragging. It's fact. You can look up my firm's win-loss record if you like. Winning defense attorneys willing to take payments are as rare as hen's teeth, but we did, and because we did, we defended many poverty stricken and minority defendants of all races. I'm telling you this because I want you to understand I'm basing my arguments on facts and not anecdotal evidence. The cases you're discussing are sensationalized by the press and made to seem far more common than they are. The truth is that every race is sometimes treated poorly by the bureaucracy running our states and country and it's the worst system in the world - except for everywhere else. Please consider things might not be as extreme as you are being gaslighted they are, because this country is in a mess because our media has discovered if they can outrage you, you will continue to consume for further outrage. If they can convince you America is a horrible, racist place, you won't look too closely at what's happening on Capitol Hill in your name and, in your case at least, they appear to have succeeded.

With all due respect my experiences are quite different than what you describe. I have spent over 40 yrs studying and dealing with structural racism and sexism and also seeing how classism works in our 'classless' society. I have worked with civil rights lawyers and spent hours in courts listening to cases and how they are handled by the courts. Your stats are quite questionable. White people are the majority of those who commit crimes but it is people of color who get the sentences and longer ones and those are the stats. The image you present is the result of the structural racsim that is core to this country. And despite your comments, I will trust my personal experiences, those of the civil rights lawyers I have worked with who often do pro bono work, and the readings that I have done. I will always listen to people of color who articulate the experience of being such and those who are also lawyers and academics and write/speak on the issue. I will also note that one of the tactics of racism, or other forms of prejudice, it to keep the community in a state of high anxiety/terror and it only takes a few cases of abuse designed to keep people fearful. This is standard modus operendi when people are being controlled. Just take a look at what they have done with Covid to gain control over the public. As for Capital Hill, I am not impressed as the reactionary forces that support racism and sexism are very strong and whether they do it loudly (GOP) or quietly (Dem) it is all the same--changes are not made in a timely manner, they are always minimal, and always take massive amounts of time and money from the pubic trying to get these crumbs that are thrown out. And even then, those crumbs get swept away. Just look at the destruction of the Voting Rights legislation and the Jim Crow tactics used to control the vote. The GOP even brags about how they will work on preventing Black people and Dems from voting as that is the only way they can win. Of course they also dont brag about the illegal tactics used to keep people from the polls but we have a long list of them. So please dont tell me I listen to the wrong people. I might suggest that you are too caught up on the weeds of the system that you are not hearing or seeing what the majority of people of color live on a daily basis.

This is what her mom says. I found out a while back when I called the victim Liason in Nashville. To see what's going on and if they have set the date for the federal appeal for the SOB David Keen. She told me he's petitioned for another appeal. WTH!!! She said I would have to call the District Attorney's office at 201 Poplar in Memphis. Because that is where it was going to be. I called last week and spoke with a woman and told her all about Nikki and what this monster did to her. She was so apologetic and could not believe he has been on death row for 33 years. She took down all my information and said she was going to make some phone calls. And would call me back this week. Which she did this morning. I told her they haven't even had his federal appeals yet. And I feel they are dragging their feet on it. My momma and daddy wanted to go to his execution. But they died in 2007. And never would have been able to live long enough. I told her I will be 65 in June and I need to be at his execution so I can see our precious Nikki finally get the justice she has deserved and should have already had years ago. She gave me the number to call and ask who the federal prosecutor was. I called the number for the federal courthouse, I told the man why I was calling and he said I would have to call the US Attorney's office in Memphis. He gave me the number and told me it would go straight to voice mail. And for me to leave a voicemail and tell him what I told him. And that he would return my call. He called me back before he left his office today. Let me tell you this gentleman was so kind and so compassionate. He ask me how to spell the inmate's name and pulled it up on the computer. He told me he doesn't know why they are bringing this appeal back to Shelby county. But he's calling tomorrow to find out what kind of appeal he's petitioned for and why it's going to be in Shelby county. And also why no date has been set for his federal appeal. He said he will try to call me tomorrow with some answers . But that he's being honest that sometimes he may forget. So if he doesn't call tomorrow. He gave me his cell number and for me to call him Friday morning. I thanked him and told him how much I appreciated him and all that he was doing for me to get answers. He told me that he doesn't take my phone call lightly. And that he was going to get to the bottom of this and have answers for me. And that my family and I did not deserve to go through this, him being on death row 33 years. No family does! And I told him that I told the woman at the DA's office the same thing. That she's done more for me ( phone calls, trying to get me traveling expenses to Ohio for federal appeal.)in a few days time than any of those victims liason's in Nashville ever did. There was only 1 that was nice and acted like she cared. She sat with Eddie and I, my brother and sister-in-law at the last appeal for him in Nashville. She sat right beside me. I was emotional as always, and tears were flowing. She held my hand the entire time. That was so sweet. Her name was Andrea. The appeal that's coming up is set for April 28th at 201 Poplar. 6th-floor criminal courtroom 8. She told me to call 3 or 4 days before the 28th to make sure it hasn't been reset, b/c it happens. I haven't had anybody in Nashville from the District Attorney's office that has really listened to me, and acted like they even cared. Even acknowledged Nikki. And these two ppl I've spoken to plus one woman I haven't spoken to yet, but I have her number and she's with the Shelby county victims unit in Memphis. She's sending me an application for crime victims' reimbursement assistance for a trip to Ohio for a federal appeal. It has made me feel good to have people who have my back and are listening to me. I honestly feel like a lot of the time focus is on the criminal, not on the victim. And that's messed up! Thank God I've got some great people fighting for justice for Nikki. Praying the federal appeal will be set soon. #justicefornikki

Look you can always find a case to promote your beliefs However, when looking at the whole system you get different statistics. I can list a whole bunch of white people who are violent, criminal and never get charged simply because they can afford private/better lawyers than poor/Black folk who are totally not violent. NYS has passed some critical new laws that recognize the unfairness of the system. People like you yell about violence but never read the laws which explicitly state that people who exhibit violence will not be allowed out of jail while awaiting trial or be allowed reprieve from their sentences if they are violent. I get very tired of how people, like yourself, refuse to look at the big picture and keep trying to deny the racism of the system which all statistics demonstrate. You might try reading the book he New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness is a book by Michelle Alexander, a civil rights litigator and legal scholar. You might also begin to look at the stories of 1000's of people of color who get railroaded into prison by racist judges and juries who think all people of color are criminal and violent. How about checking your own belief system? How about looking at your own community and how many people of color you actually know as friends whose lives you learn about and come to appreciate their experiences which are not like yours due to color.

One difference (out of many) is that white people killed by cops are generally doing violent things and resisting arrest. That is quite different than cops racially profiling Black drivers and escalating situations rapidly and killing them. As for those in prison, the statistics show that Black folk get longer sentences than whites for the same infractions. Further, there are more people of color incarcerated as structural racism is more lenient to white people. I would suggest that is it you that racializes the situation claiming those incarcerated are all violent criminals when in fact most are not serving time for violent acts. That is one symbol of your racism.
