We use one tank of gas a month, being retired we did all the traveling we wanted to in our younger years. Now going to the grocery store and doctor is the most we travel. Too expensive to eat out. And not trusting the food supply is another issue when you have food allergies. The products we were familiar with are being taken away. The new stuff is expensive and you don't trust buying it. Recalls are at an all-time high—even meds. The Feds never worked so hard to remove food, and OTC MEDS in 50 years. I don't trust many of Pharma's poisons.

Unless I have a life threatening accident or a catastrophic illness/disease, I stay far away from doctors and their RX pushing for "anything that ails you."

That is why I don't want to by an electric bike, they are all so much heavier due to the battery and often the frame as well is heavy. Simple wins.

Yeah, sure; we've been hearing that since the first Tesla hit the street. So where is all this new tech? Where is the cyber truck? Where is the Sportster? Where is the Semi? There are five key factors that push EVs to the bottom of the river.
1) Any vehicle with the source of dependable and predictable long-term power located outside it is a stupid concept. It’s like buying an ultra-modern gun and asking the people you meet on your way for ammo. You have to find the proper spot, at the proper time (with no competing drivers), in the proper conditions (no grid problems). Plus, you have to rip your life of your personal time to refuel the vehicle. Innovators and designers, are you out of your minds? Please, have a look at F1 refueling. When will something like this be available for your EVs?
2) Unique aesthetics. Yes, people make buying decisions based on whether they like what they see. And it may actually increase the value of the car after long years. With EVs, impossible. Boxes on wheels, manufactured to similar design patterns, ugly, strange, weird, or looking as a bad dream of the designer. Selling it after a year may be the greatest adventure of your life.
3) Controls. Stubborn fitting of unwanted smartphone and tablet screens wherever possible is attractive on photos. Try to drive in a high-traffic rush hour at decent speeds and concentrate on selecting the proper icon or text from the screen 30 degrees off your route - dismissing what is actually happening in front of you…
4) Price. There is nothing new about EVs. The mechanics has been here for 120 years or more. The production line technology, reducing manufacturing costs to $100 per car has been here for 100 years. The machine park has already been bought, depreciated in full many times over, and costs practically nothing. Plastics are cheap. Unified components mass produced by one supplier for 80 makes: negligible costs. Battery technology has been here for about 20 years, and it only needs slight makeover. All complicated components have been thrown out. The reasonable price of a new EV should be 1/3 of IC vehicles. Then, maybe, just maybe, people would consider giving up their reliable, cheap in purchase and low-cost in maintenance old style cars from 30 years ago.
5) Weight. Even IC vehicles are absurd: you need a 1,500 kg (3,400 lbs) car to transport an 80 kg (180 lbs) driver: 5% by weight. EVs raised the standard: now you have a 2,000 kg (4,600 lbs) car, and the ratio is 5% by weight. 20% worse performance. Congratulations. You have just bought yourself the most expensive vehicle for the transport of its own battery. And this increased weight will wear down all components of the vehicle faster than you think.
All in all, it looks as if the EV was forced to push the base price for a car (of any type). Even if they give up this concept, the absurd prices for new cars will stay. Can you imagine that once there was an idea that the citizen of the country should have their own cheap car (People's Car project) whose retail price was estimated at about 8 monthly salaries? 1934 - 90 years ago…

I have been a full time cyclist, on and off, for 2 decades. One of the criteria I use for my bicycles is their weight, ie could I easily push the thing up a hill if for some reason I (or it) can't (or wont) get up the hill. That is why I don't want to by an electric bike, they are all so much heavier due to the battery and often the frame as well is heavy. Simple wins.
Manufacturers are exploring new battery technologies, such as solid-state batteries, to bring down costs, increase range, and facilitate faster charging." Yeah, sure; we've been hearing that since the first Tesla hit the street. So where is all this new tech? Where is the cyber truck? Where is the Sportster? Where is the Semi? These were things "we can do now," is what Musk said back 6 years ago. Musk is either back on drugs, or his brain has been fried by all the drugs.
There are five key factors that push EVs to the bottom of the river.
1) Any vehicle with the source of dependable and predictable long-term power located outside it is a stupid concept. It’s like buying an ultra-modern gun and asking the people you meet on your way for ammo. You have to find the proper spot, at the proper time (with no competing drivers), in the proper conditions (no grid problems). Plus, you have to rip your life of your personal time to refuel the vehicle. Innovators and designers, are you out of your minds? Please, have a look at F1 refueling. When will something like this be available for your EVs?
2) Unique aesthetics. Yes, people make buying decisions based on whether they like what they see. And it may actually increase the value of the car after long years. With EVs, impossible. Boxes on wheels, manufactured to similar design patterns, ugly, strange, weird, or looking as a bad dream of the designer. Selling it after a year may be the greatest adventure of your life.
3) Controls. Stubborn fitting of unwanted smartphone and tablet screens wherever possible is attractive on photos. Try to drive in a high-traffic rush hour at decent speeds and concentrate on selecting the proper icon or text from the screen 30 degrees off your route - dismissing what is actually happening in front of you…
4) Price. There is nothing new about EVs. The mechanics has been here for 120 years or more. The production line technology, reducing manufacturing costs to $100 per car has been here for 100 years. The machine park has already been bought, depreciated in full many times over, and costs practically nothing. Plastics are cheap. Unified components mass produced by one supplier for 80 makes: negligible costs. Battery technology has been here for about 20 years, and it only needs slight makeover. All complicated components have been thrown out. The reasonable price of a new EV should be 1/3 of IC vehicles. Then, maybe, just maybe, people would consider giving up their reliable, cheap in purchase and low-cost in maintenance old style cars from 30 years ago.
5) Weight. Even IC vehicles are absurd: you need a 1,500 kg (3,400 lbs) car to transport an 80 kg (180 lbs) driver: 5% by weight. EVs raised the standard: now you have a 2,000 kg (4,600 lbs) car, and the ratio is 5% by weight. 20% worse performance. Congratulations. You have just bought yourself the most expensive vehicle for the transport of its own battery. And this increased weight will wear down all components of the vehicle faster than you think.
All in all, it looks as if the EV was forced to push the base price for a car (of any type). Even if they give up this concept, the absurd prices for new cars will stay. Can you imagine that once there was an idea that the citizen of the country should have their own cheap car (People's Car project) whose retail price was estimated at about 8 monthly salaries? 1934 - 90 years ago…
